On Tuesday our junior hurlers took on Pobailscoil Neasáin in Ballymastone, in their opening match, ending with a triumphant win for DCC.

Conor Heffernan was first to put DCC on the scoresheet early on in the match, many others also added to the tally such as captain Aidan Walsh. DCC were able to maintain their dominance due to super saves by goalkeeper, Senan Mythen. Great defending from Dan McNamara, Ethan Ryan, Finn Masterson, Matthew O’Connor, Conor Donovan and Jacob Tucker kept Pobailscoil Neasáin out of DCC’s net. Scores by James Stanbridge, Jacob Conneely, Donagh Crean, Kevin O’Leary and Conor Donovan brought our convincing first half to a close.

After some motivational words from Mr Ward at half time and some substitutions, the team were ready to get back on the pitch. The second half got off to a flying start with many scores being achieved by DCC. Frees taken by Conor Heffernan all added to the count for the home team which wasn’t the end of Heffernans’ scoring spree. The final whistle blew confirming DCC into the third round of the cup.

Well done to the team and thanks to Mr Ward!
