The First Year girls soccer team have enjoyed excellent success so far this season! Below are three match reports from games they have played recently. Well done to all involved!

Donabate Community College – 3

Portmarnock Community School – 1

Back in January, the 1st Year Girls defeated Portmarnock Community School. The girls’ spirits were high as they were excited to play the first match of the new year.

They got off to a great start by pressing hard and even shooting for goal in the third minute although it unfortunately hit the crossbar. This was soon followed by an outstanding goal in the fifth minute by Isadora Mulcahy Kyne.

The match continued with both teams battling hard. To keep the score on their side goalkeeper Isabella Duke made some great saves that really changed the dynamic of the match. DCC’s opposition fought hard but DCC fought harder resulting in Saoirse Bisset scoring an amazing goal to make the score 2-0 to DCC in the 17th minute. The girls hard work was rewarded by the first half ending with the score on our side. The girls regrouped at half time and prepared themselves for another half.

In the beginning of the second half, Portmarnock came back to make the score 2-1, but it was futile as DCC stayed strong and resilient. The defenders deserve a special mention by playing flawlessly and calmly to prevent any further opposing goals. Soon enough, Mya Finn scored a third goal in the 38th minute to make the final score 3-1.

The team played great and deserved the win. Well done girls and coaches!

Eureka Secondary School – 0

On Wednesday 6th March, DCCs first year girls’ soccer team had an outstanding 8-0 win against Eureka Secondary School.

The match begun with DCC’s midfield settling straight into the game with great plays from Sophie, even with Eureka putting up a tough competition. Eureka fought back with great shots and gave our defence a serious challenge. Fortunately, we had great saves from our goalkeeper Isabella Duke and our defence kept up a strong front. DCC kept their heads up and Isadora Mulcahy Kyne nabbed the first goal for DCC.

Eureka kept up a stiff competition for our girls with some great shots and defence. DCC swiftly retaliated with yet another goal from Isadora. As the game went on, DCC kept up their confidence with another goal from Saoirse, giving DCC a 3 – 0 lead at halftime.

Eureka started the second half with fierce determination and gave DCC a tough challenge. Eureka made some great shots and kept possession where they could. Unfortunately for the opposition, they were unlucky as DCCs girls didn’t give up and gave their all into a brilliant game, scoring five more goals. Kayla Clifford came in with some excellent talent scoring 4 goals for DCC! When the fulltime whistle blew, DCC had achieved an astounding win of 8 – 0.

Well done to the team for their exceptional game and best of luck to them and their coaches in their future games. Also thank you to St Ita’s for loaning jerseys to our team!

Kishoge Community College – 0

Last Friday, DCC defeated Kishoge Community College from Lucan in their League Quarter Final. Freya Smith scored four goals for DCC while Sophie Nangle, Lily Caswell, Saoirse Bissett, Kayla Clifford, Isadora Mulcahy Kyne all got on the scoresheet.

DCC were given the dream start when they got an early through ball crossed into the box and with Sophie Nangle at the back post, she stuck it in the back of net in the opening minute.

DCC were playing good football as the half developed and brilliant solo play from Freya Smith, she dribbled past three players and passed it off to Lily Caswell who buried it in the net to double DCC’s lead.

Freya Smith made it 3-0 when again with a brilliant run past another two players and she slotted the ball into the far corner to make it 3-0. Saoirse Bissett and Smith also added a goal each to leave the scoreboard firmly in DCC’s control at the break.

In the second half, DCC continued to pile on the pressure. Freya Smith added her fourth after a terrific run, sticking it in the net early in the second half. Kayla Clifford and Isadora Mulcahy Kyne also found the net as DCC ensured their victory.

Victory sends the DCC team into the League semi-finals! We wish them every success in their preparation for this!
