JUNIOR RUGBY

DCC’s Junior Rugby team recently participated in the U16 Final Cup Qualifiers in Coolmine RFC. While they were defeated on the day, they learned a lot and will take this learning going forward. They played Malahide and Ardgillan in two hard fought games of rugby.

DCC started strongly during their first match in their blitz against Malahide putting in strong tackles, completing good passes and making good runs to try get points to win the game for DCC but unfortunately DCC were unlucky in this match and lost out to Malahide.

DCC were unlucky in their first game but were determined to make an impact early on and win the game against Ardgillan. It started off well with DCC making runs and challenging for the ball, thanks to Jake Waters early on we got a try when he made a brilliant run and gave DCC some confidence. A few minutes later James Stanbridge then scored a conversion to put DCC seven points up against Ardgillan. With the opposition making subs, and DCC getting injuries, unfortunately Ardgillan took over scoring and dominated the game, earning a 32-7 win.

Unfortunately, these results puts the team out of competition this year, but they will look with confidence to next year’s competitions!

SENIOR RUGBY:

On the 29th of February, DCC’s Senior boys rugby team travelled to Balbriggan to participate in the U18 Fingal Cup qualifiers.

In the first match against Balbriggan, the boys started strongly with the game going from end to end. Both defences held up well early on. A try from Kevin Burke had DCC with high hopes but unfortunately, after a well-played game, the boys lost.

In the boys’ second match against Ardgillan, both teams played very well. Unfortunately, Ardgillan had the upper hand and DCC earned their second defeat of the day. However, each player played with determination, skill and left everything on the field.

To the 6th Years who fielded in the blitz; Babalo, Kyle, Jonathan, Alex, John, Louis, Vincent, Daniel, Robert and Kevin a special thank you for representing the school playing rugby for the past number of years.
