Last Thursday, students across many different year groups competed in the Swords Community College Cross Country Relay Competition in St. Colmcilles GAA Grounds. Schools coming from as far as Mullingar were competing in the strenuous course. All students were running in the 4x600m relay. The course was very difficult, with a significant hill, hay bales as hurdles and the runners persevered through the muddy track.

Starting with the 1st Years, both teams made a great effort, facing some impressive competition. Although extremely close the whole way through, the teams came home with no medals.

Next, both the 2nd Year and 4th Year teams made a brilliant effort! Their resilience throughout the race did them well, with both of them coming in the top 5 of over 15 teams.

Finally, the Senior Girls were up. Both boys and girls teams competed at the same time, but were awarded in different categories. The team started with Grace McConnell, then Isabelle Malone, then Michelle Brannigan and finally Sinead Farrell. The competition was fierce with some very serious cross country runners present, but they were able to pull through and secure third place in their division!

Congratulations to everyone who competed! Thanks to Dr Cooke and Ms Fennell who accompanied the team!

The teams were as follows;

1st Year Girls: Saoirse Bisset, Laoise Farrell, Lea Hubert, Eva Juraviciete
1st Year Boys: Ryan McGeehan, Leon Capucci, Michael Lynders, Ben Egan
