Donabate Community College – 4

St. Joseph’s Secondary School – 4

Last Thursday, our first year football team went head to head with St. Joseph’s from Rush.

The first goal of the game was scored early by Aidan Barry as he fought through their defence. Donabate were very good at playing the ball around Rush and intercepting the ball when they lost it. Anthony Kelly scored another after 20 minutes to double DCC’s lead and make it 2-0.

After 30 mins of play, Rush got on the scoresheet themselves and then 2 minutes later they scored another to make it 2-2. At 36 minutes, Rush scored another to make it 2-3. It looked like Donabate were going out of the game until Aidan Barry scored a screamer to equalise the game at three all.

At 52 minutes an own goal was scored which pushed Rush back into a 4-3 lead but DCC were not finished. The team worked hard to get back into contention and they found that goal with five minutes to go. Tristan Byrne Nolan took a shot at their net which the defender tried to clear with a header, but managed to turn it in his own net. That was the last goal of the game with the sides finishing all square, 4 goals each.

It was a brilliant game with Donabate CC fighting hard throughout the game. Well done to all involved and thanks to Mr Murphy for his work with the team!
