The sports season has finally reached it’s climax here in DCC. Despite the bank holiday weekend, the students and coaches were straight into it ahead of a big sports day on Friday, with two finals, a blitz and a challenge game all preceding the main event on Friday.

On Tuesday, the climax of the girls’ soccer season came to a head with a first year cup final, and a junior league final both kicking off in different venues, but at the same time.
Unfortunately, they would both end the same way too as the first years went down 5-1 to a very talented Gorey CC, while the juniors were beaten 2-1 in Ballymastone by Dunshaughlin CC.

Gaelic football became the focus on Thursday as the second year boys’ Gaelic footballers were in action against St David’s CBS, Artane. A competitive game which included first years for the Artane outfit saw goals go in at either end, as well as some fantastic points taken. In the end, DCC ran out winners by a comfortable margin on a beautiful Thursday in Ballymastone.

In St. Patrick’s GAA, Stamullen, the first year LGFA team took part in the ‘Glenveagh Homes North East Schools 1st Year Blitz’. The girls battled brilliantly, winning five out of five games in the group stages, but unfortunately came out on the wrong side in the semi final against a very talented Sacred Heart, Drogheda.

On Friday, at the end of a fantastically run Sports Day, the teachers and sixth years locked horns for the annual derby, which had a trophy for the first time ever. The game finished 2-2 after normal time and brought the drama of a penalty shootout. In the pressure, the teachers stood up, in which three out of five perfect penalties from Mr Hopkins, Mr O’Meara and Mr Weafer, as well as a crucial save by Mr. Best saw the teachers regain the title for the first time since 2022.

There are no sports fixtures this week. If there are any changes to this, we will update you on our social media pages.
